How can I retrieve text from NotePad?

I did quite a bit of writing and my laptop restarted by itself. Don't really want to lose it (3 hrs work) so is there any way? It's Windows Vista if that's important.

select everything and select all then copy and paste??

i suggest you use MS Word since it will save a backup copy for you (a temp one) and saves it every....5 mins or something

Not going to help me now, right? I don't have MS Word on this laptop - my old one had it (the expensive package with everything that cost me almost $1k!) but the laptop crashed and I can't restore it off the hard drive.

Any idea for the notepad restoring guys?

Notepad is blank right now obviously because CPU restarted.

No and I know notepad does not have that function but there are keylog type programs that do - which is what I am looking for.

I remember I downloaded one once to monitor my young son's Internet use and it showed me text I typed days before downloading it.

3 hours of work without any save? You must be joking.

Keylog can be usefull if you install it before that restart happen, otherwise, just like what adhauliya said, you need to write it back again.

Joking, no. It wasn't for work but rather for personal use but pretty important. Kind of life me scheduling the rest of my life out, planning jobs I take up, finances, and etc...kind of a thing that I can't rewrite that easily.

It's a brand new laptop, I can't expect a random shutdown this quick - crap.
