ICANN, who manage TLD registars, have actually just allowed a decision whereby people can register their own TLD and run it how they like. For example, you could have .smile, .yourlastname, .yourbusinessname, etc.

The only problem with this is you have to have a stong reason to have your own TLD, and it is very expensive. I think it was around $200,000 to set it up and run the operation.

Cr@pload of money and pitch it to ICANN(T).

PS: Wait in line. Lots of others trying to make their own TLD so they can cash out and say so long...

The only problem is, the ideas of proxies are to get around the filters, and they already block domains with the word "proxy" in them so they're going to have a field day when the .proxy TLD arrives... because they just block anyone visiting it!

Thats your dream down the drain... sorry :p

Places of work/schools/colleges block certain websites that are either not suitable for the environment, or because they make distract the computer user. Therefore they block these websites.

A proxy allows users to bypass the filter so they can view these websites. Whats the point in having a filter in place when everyone can just log on to any old proxy and get round it. Therefore, proxies are blocked aswell.

    Hope this helps.

I guess not a lot really look up for the exact price as through common sense it will be costly. Imagine a big company setting up something just for you(or your company).

Edit: wait.. if you mean normal tld like .com, .net, .org the price will range from between $7-$15 ++ ( depending on the duration of the registration and some other factors)

To create your own TLD you will need somewhere in the region of $100,000-200,000
