Im doing exactly what you have listed and im getting visitors (new unique) everyday, also get on Social Networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and promote your brand from there. Your points 3 and 4 take up alot of time but can pay off if it is done right.

well, you could try other avenues as well...such as submitting articles and blogs, commenting on blogs and forums..and also try social bookmarking adn social networking..all of which contains a link of your website...and in a matter of days you'll be able to see your website escalating on any search engines' pages..
Well there a various ways to "get your website known". The best methods are listed below. 1) Submit your site to PTC sites. This gives you heaps of hits and traffic. For instance, the PTC site in my sig gives you a free 500 hit trial of their service. After that it's $2 for 1000 hits and with discounts for large packages. 2) Do a link exchange with somebody. Simple enough. 3) Post on forums like this and put your site in your sig and/or in the site reviews forum. Not a bad way to get your site out there, and if people are interested they'll check it out!
