I'm trying to figure out a way using Omniture data to calculate organic Click Thru Rate, much in the same way Adwords gives CTRs for keywords within PPC campaigns. The point being that I'd like to work on optimising title tags for the best performing pages to try and increase CTR from our organic page 1 rankings, much the same way I would optimise Adwords copy to improve CTR. I can gather visit data by keyword from Google, and by knowing current rankings (or looking at additional Omniture data) I know which URL is ranking/getting traffic for a specific keyword. What I can't estimate is the number of impressions the organically ranking page has had, to calculate the CTR. Can anyone think of a way I might be able to get the number of Google impressions in the UK a page ranking in the top 3 for a specific keyword gets? Thanks
The only way to get this data is in a roundabout way using Google Adwords. That is, you create an ad in Adwords that shows up for a keyword you're doing organic seo for, and then you see how many impressions it gets. As long as your ad is showing up all the time, then you can get a decent handle on the number of impressions your organic listing is getting. Other than this, there's no way to find out without getting access directly to Google's stats, which if course would be a goldmine for any online marketer but which Google holds fairly tightly. The only data Google gives out comes through the Google Keyword Tool which is hardly detailed.
