How can I make product links in my site

I am a total newbie at web designing, and i was wondering. I plan to build a small site, and put some of amazons products on it, and since I have never done this before, can I make a link to a certain item, and have a picture link that shows an image of the item, and get referral credit? I plan to recommend certain old video games that are available on amazon, but have never used amazon affiliate program before. After I sign up with amazon affiliate, how do I make the links? I am not planning to build a store or anything like that, just showcase a couple of products my visitors might like.

 

when you log into amazon affiliate section there is a build links section that will give you the linking code.

I just used the built in tools on Amazon.com. I actually reall like the bar at the top of the page when you are logged in as you can search amazon for the product you want and then click `link to this item`. It is very helpful.
