I am planning to create a personal server for my site. How can I make it secure?

    INFORMATION:
The computer that will serve as the server will host the site and it will provide internet access (Verizon FIOS) to 4 other personal computers in the building. Will this compromise the security of the computers on my network or will it have no effect that I am hosting my site on the server computer?

Please help! If you need more information please tell me and I will provide it.

    Thank you.

You can install various third party applications in order to secure your server like rkhunter, chkrootkit Installation & configuration of third party firewall like csf/apf/ Brute Force Detection etc etc.

    QUESTIONS:

    1. So this means that, yes, if I run a server for my website, the other computers hosted by my server will easily be compromised security wise (Hackers can steal or put viruses on the server which will be transfered to my networked computers).

    2. How much would it cost to get 3rd party security software like the ones you described. Is McAfee good?
