How can I make my forum successful?

Ok, I have a paintball forum site.

I am looking to make it really BIG!! Right now it is small, with not a ton of members. What do I need to do to make it really big, activate and successful?

I am trying to compete with a couple of paintball sites.

you see your "competition" not only has totally different inner attitude resulting in different site colors
but they also have been working 6-7 years more than you
that makes up to 20'000 to 30'000 working hours difference

step UP and you may match them as long as you never attempt to compete with them
if you want to compete - you LOSE - because they are more experience, tougher, working harder and always one big step ahead of you!
but you still can succeed - just offer what they forgot to offer, be different and complimentary to their services, info, etc
cater to ANOTHER group of potential site visitors forgotten by them
another language - etc

 

Can anyone help me with it?? I juts want to see soo many people online and using my site!!!

Hans has given you some good pointers to work with; you have to understand that you shouldn’t actually try to compete with the other boards at this point. Instead you need to focus on how you want to build your community and then work hard on it.

Both the forums have taken years to get to the point they are currently at and the same will be applicable to you, unless you got couple of millions dollers laying around for this project.

I have recently written an article on "Why most forums fail with in a year of their existence" go through it, it has some pointer on dos and don’ts you need to be focusing on at this point of time.

you want someone else to do YOUR 6-7 years of WORK !!?? and pay him for $$
thats ten thousands of hours of highly qualified and hard work costing you hundred thousands of $ !!

and by the end when your site is successful
you, your kids, your wife and all your friends have absolutely NO dad to look UP to or to be proud of ...
because YOU have done nothing at all

all you would have would be property or result of OTHER people's ideas and creativity
... leaving you lazy weak and vulnerable
unfit to survive in a world of global competition

i give you one more precise example of what i understand about NOT competing but filling a gap others LEFT or CREATED to GIVE YOU a place in our global family

example my site
several of my "hobby sections" are highly successful
one of the is about wallpapers

however i NEVER attempt to ever compete on the keyword wallpaper or to compete with any of the large sites having wallpapers
many have most beautiful wallpapers and absolutely deserve a top 10 SERPS

so what i do is to offer something no one else can offer or only a few
i create tropical wallpapers

i love and live and work in a tropical paradise since many years and have been traveling mostly tropical countries while working the past many decades
hence i am amidst millions of most beautiful tropical sceneries no one else can see or publish
the Philippine islands and its beauty
so instead of competing with ANY travel - i specialize on my temporary beautiful HOME environment

and since i have a ferrari 4004WLMi laptop with widescreen 1680x1050px
i realized that there are few widescreen wallpapers and some of them out there are for the smaller widescreen formats

hence i offer the newest widescreen generation
i.e. 1680x1050 PLUS 1920x1200
hence i fill a GAP others left out

and to do above i invest thousands of ä in high end photo equipment, travel many thousands of kilometers and spend months out on islands or tropical mountains

as a result i enjoy many top 10 serps and high traffic in a competition that only is around a few million competing pages - thats a low competition number i easily can handle to get into top 10 serps after 10 yrs of experience and intense work

you lack passion for what you do
review the topic of your forum
whatever you want to publish and want to be excellent / really successful
YOU have first of all to become a true expert
there are millions of niches to become a unique expert
all you have to do is to invest your life and all you have including all the power of your heart

for true happy making success in life you have to find something YOU love to do on your own rather than a niche you prefer to pay someone else to do "your" job

the fact that you want others to do your job is alrealy a FULL 100% proof that you absolutely have zero love for the topic of your forum!

if you have a beautiful woman - a really hot ans sweet lover ...
are you also looking for someone to make HER happy ?? or would you do THAT "JOB" yourself - and if latter - What would be the difference between caring / loving a hot babe and caring for a hot sitre ?

a site also can be a source of love for others - help and advice, solutions, fun, beauty, etc and hence also can be a source of satisfaction in life to give sense and content to your young life
