    Hello

I was trying to make an ad with image, but my GIF is 85KB(468 X 60) and Google Adwords allow up to 50 KB only....

then how come all huge banners are there? and Flash ads too?
what am i missing and how can i make my gif ad?

    Thanks in advance!

You need to decrease color depth (16 instead of 254). You may also have too many details, high-res pictures. Simplify your banner design. Usually GIF is best for smaller size but you may want to convert to JPEG and see if it's smaller in that format or even PNG as Adwords accepts that format too.

I use a software called Irfanview. It can do a bunch of things such as decreasing color depth and converting to other formats. Many other graphic software I'm sure can do the same.

Have you used irfanview as Lucid suggested above?

You can also use Imageresizer for Windows (presuming you are on Windows).

Image resizing is not as hard as we are making it look here, man!

It's all in the resolution and the level of detail you are using. I assume that if you make something move, say a little man from left to right, one pixel at a time, that will create a larger file than if you make him move two pixels at a time. You don't need to be so fine in the movement, the effect will be the same.

I also think that the more details you have, the larger your file. If you make a complex background with lots of details and colors, your file may be large. Just make it simpler to save bandwidth.

Irfanview can take that animated GIF and decompose it into whatever many frames there is. You could then edit each frame (using graphic editing software which Irfan is not) and reconstruct them back into the animation. I'm sure other more sophisticated software could do this too.
