    I recommend http://www.lightirc.com. It's free, without ads and very easy to set up. You can see it in action on my website (a bit customized).

    You can use LightIrc in three different ways:

    1.You can embed the chat script on your website via iframe, copying the code below and pasting it to wherever you want your chat to be:
    2.You can download the script and upload it to your web server. The advantage is that you can edit the 'settings' file where you can customize your chat visually. It's very easy to set up. Click here.

    3.You can download the source code and customize it completely, which I don't think suits your needs best.

    I've been using Chatango for last 2 years and there were no problems so far. I don't have big trafiic though.
