Another good point is that much about SEO is not even agreed by the experts so you will get many differing points of view. On page SEO - i.e. what you do to your website to make it SE friendly. This is fairly straight forward but you will get different views on keyword density, value of meta tags etc. But don't get bogged down in the detail. Off page SEO really means getting as many links to your website as possible. General rule is more links the better, links from sites with higher PR are better, links with your keywords in the anchor text is better. Huge disagreements on link values, PR value of home pages , related content, linking too quickly etc. Generally avoid auto linking systems as they may be more trouble than their worth. Make sure your links are varied and from different sources and you should be good. One piece of food for thought is - If you know so little about SEO how did you select your keywords in the first place. Chances are you didn't do it properly (id at all) so you may find it a struggle to get your site ranked at the top of any search engine.
