My meta tags for my website are these: Keywords: poker forums, poker is rigged, pokerforums, poker discussion, poker, online, forums, online forums, online poker, poker Description: online poker discussion forums Are these good for me? Is it bad to have too many? Do I need to have "poker, online" and then "online poker"? I'm an absolute noob for meta tags. I want to target the phrase "poker forums" the most. Should I change the description to "poker forums" or the more words the better?
Keywords don't make too much difference to be honest, but they look okay. I wouldn't worry about adding the extra "online poker" to be honest. What's your title? That really the only meta that makes much difference.
why not check out wordtracker to see how much competition those keywords have vs. how many searches they get. Wordtracker is not free, but they offer their service for one day for a small amount. If your serious about this site, a few dollars doing some comprehensive keyword research to really find out which keywords to target for is more than worth it. Good luck
My site name is "Poker Advice at your #1 Poker Forum". I just feel I could improve the meta tags as the previous owner made a pretty crap job of the site. And I am dedicated to the site, some keyword research could be very useful.
Those are WAY too many keywords. It's according to how much info is on your actual page, but if you can, put them on the page, instead. Take it out of your code. Keep your page short, and put the keywords on top. You do not want your keywords drowned out by a long page filled with a lot of text. In addition to putting the keywords on your board, I would suggest also creating a short landing page, and make it one hell of a sales page that is appealing. Get their juices flowing, put in a couple of free quick tips, and whatnot, and...put in your keywords on the actual page. You now have two sources of search-engine food. Then have them go to your board from there. Bait them: Click here for some really cool advice on online poker, and how guys just like you are making money." Prime your visitors before they go to a regualr ol' message board. Your description should be more appealing to the readers in the search engines. Give them a reason WHY they should go to your site. Maybe: "Click here right now for some really cool advice on online poker, and how guys just like you are making money." In your description, tell them to act, by saying something like, "click here now." The engines will read them both as the same, but most will type in "online poker."
