What you exactly want to do. It seems you want to retain users on your page and got to open the link in a new tab right?
no not in a new tab. Look at this link for example http://www.photoshoplady.com/tutorial/special-shiny-text-effect-using-photoshop/2755 altough the link is photoshoplady.com you are actually in another url, and until u click the close button in the top right u wont leave photoshoplady.com does that make any sense?

Yes, you should definitely try using iframes. That is the closest thing that comes to mind. What the page you provided does looks similar to google's image search engine; but I have no clue what its called.
