How can I get traffic to my blog?

I have an ok blog with about 2,000 unique words. I want to start getting traffic to it, what is the best way to go about this. I have herd that you can build back lines, but don't know how. Help would be great.

Well, you can try using blog top lists, blog catalogs & blog directories to start off with, seems people actually really use those to find useful blogs.

One way would be to use forum signature links, like those allowed here at DP. Build the site, get the links, and surely they will come.

 

Aside from emailing related blogs in your niche, I reccommend blog carnivals. You can find a whole list of them at blogcarnival.com - there's so many out there that you're bound to find one related to what you're doing.

Even if there's not a blog carnival for your specific niche, starting a blog carnival and emailing owners of related sites telling them about the carnival (including "what's in it for them" -- traffic and "getting known"), and inviting them to submit their "best" post to your carnival. Throwing in a bone about having a "dofollow" blog carnival will also win over quite a few people, since they're looking for linkjuice and backlinks just like you are.

try to submit your blogs to directories and social book markings. Also try to write article and press release about your blog and write a usefula nd informative content so people would link to you naturally.

 

you also can exchage some relates links, with hihg trafic sites if possible.

just look who your competitors are in your niche...see who is linking to them (yahoo site explorer)...and then try to get all their links.

If you are using wordpress, you should install Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress. This is very cool and recommended plugin. After you install it, add good content as often as possible to your blog. This plugin will build new sitemaps each time you post your new content and then will notify google, yahoo, and msn. Your blog will be listed in search results very fast and you will start to have many visitors from search engine.

Just keep submitting to directories and stuff, or invest by buying perm links/posts across other blogs. Thus increasing your pagerank aka the number of backlinks, in the end increasing your rankings.

Thanks guys, I just uploaded google sitemap. I think I did it right, I installed and activated it, but there is nothing different about my blog. Should there be something that says sitemap, how do I no I did it right? And also how long will it take for the sitemap to get google to find my page?
