How can I get notified when someone links to my website?

    Hello,

Suppose someone links to one of my websites in an article, blog, ... Is there a way to get somehow a notification of that?

I already browsed through the DP forum. I saw several times people referring to Google Alerts with link:mydomain.com, but that is not correct because link:mydomain.com only gives a small subset of backlinks.

    Thank you!

Check your referrals to see what link traffic you are getting.

You can allow pingbacks, im sure there is a plugin that mails or smses you a alert when you receive a backlink (pingback)

    Thanks for the replies.

Sates, google alert will only give only notify you of a small amount of backlinks, because the link: keyword only shows a subset.

dcristo, good idea, hadn't thought of that! Thanks.

EMO_Ralez, I had never heard of pingbacks before. After some small research it seems more suitable for standard weblog software such as WordPress (will be a challenge for my custom-developed websites) and the linking party needs to support pingbacks too.

As the other poster noted, use Google Alerts. http://www.google.com/alerts

Set it up to alert you when it finds your company name, domain name and related variants.

I check my referrers each morning over coffee. Usually see some interesting stuff there.

Although when the traffic gets higher they'll get lost in the noise ...
