How can I get my forum off the ground?

    Hey all,

I started my forums around 6 days ago. IMO I have enough posts and threads but now how do I direct traffic to it?

    Without using:
    Digg
    StumbleUpon
    Articles

I am in the process of creating a video for YouTube, but I have serious doubts that that will go far.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks

    Incase you are curious.

You could try link swapping on sites, post your site on directories, or AdWords? ;)

I would suggest start SEO'ing your forum.
Also word of mouth can work wonders.

    Alright thanks for the suggestions.
For SEO, all I need to do is create a robots.txt file to avoid some duplicate content - also fix the meta tags - and use SE friendly URLS - right?
I wouldn't mind using AdWords except according to spyfu I would have to pay 0.50 - 1.50 per click!

Are you serious? Getting a forum of the ground takes many months at least. Maybe years. A forum is like every other site, it will take ages before pages start to rank.

The only thing you can do is continue adding content, get links and deeplinks, comment on blogposting in same niche (comment = invitation) and have a lot of patience. In the meantime add more content. 10 new threads per day a a start.

And forget about Stumble traffic. It S...* and is a waste of time.

Adwords is okay to get traffic. Don't advertise in Google search but in content network.

Create niche keywords combined with forum or forums:

    niche keyword forum
    another niche keyword forum
    etc etc.

Monitor your Adwords stats and tweak them along the way. No way you have to pay more than 15 cents per click. Just choose the right keywords.
