Forums are hard to get traffic to at the start. You normaly need to funnel trafic to it from another website (which I believe is something you are trying to do here by asking how to get traffic to your seo forum FROM an seo forum lol).

 

Add unique content and get some links.Google will do rest.

 

A viral article may drive massive amounts of traffic. Getting on digg's home page would result in an avalanche of traffic. The only problem is getting there..

As for the long term traffic, first page of google might do the job, the best position is of course No.1 but getting there for a competitive keyword is also a time consuming task, lot's of quality content, domain name and backlinks.
