How can I get Google to accept my keyword?

I am optimizing a website for an IT Support Company - however Google does not seem to accept 'IT' as a keyword and it is affecting our results. Does anyone know a way around this?? :)

    Hey,
You said Google does not accept "IT" as keyword, but if you search on Google for "IT" related query then you can found so many websites have used "IT" with their prime keyword(IT Services, IT Jobs, IT Companies etc) and they are getting ranking for that keywords.

There is no way to force google to accept any specific keyword,
perhaps you can try to use synonyms or elaborate the abbreviation,
    that may help

Google won't accept IT as a keyword because of the length and because of "it" being a common word. There's no way to "force" Google to do anything. As suggested above, you're better off trying to optimize for a phrase containing IT instead of just trying to use "IT". The type of IT services you offer would be a good place to start in determining what phrase to use.

It's quite simple, use detailed version of IT keyword with phrase(s) i.e. Information Technology. Also use semantic variation of your key phrases to let Google understand your keywords.

Well, by optimizing keywords using white hat techniques, we surely can "force" Google to understand our specific keyword.

Actually, Google guide webmasters in different ways. Now it depends on their approach how they perform website optimization.

I am not trying to force Google to accept the word, for some reason it just won't pick it up. I use it in phrases such as IT Support, IT Maintenance etc, but on Google webmaster it is not listed under the significant keywords, it only picks up Support, Technology or Maintenance etc. Its really affecting our reports and our client is not happy because of it. I don't understand how our competition manage so well with it and we cant even get on the first 5 pages of results. Using Information Technology is fine, but are users really going to type that into Google or just IT?

do a google search like this: site:yourdomain.com "IT"

i'm sure the keyword it would be highlighted,

don't worry about it is listed in webmasters or not, your have to compete in the "otherword + it" in this sector
