You could compare the results you get when you search normally (provided Google is detecting your location properly) to the ones you get when you search generally without any location settings on. That will show you who is spending in your geographical area.

Another trick might be to search for your location as a keyword and see what that throws up.

However, unless you've got a specific industry or product in mind, it'll be almost impossible to find everyone who is spending near you. That sort of data just isn't available and would be too hard to compile by hand.

Do a search and include your local area in the search field. Check down the right hand side to see their Adwords in use. :)

What I did was find a list of the most expensive adsense keywords - then search for them adding the word "in ********". That way I found some of the people likely to be spending the most on Google Adwords.

I hope this helps anyone else doing local business marketing online,

    James.

Try Keywordspy website, there you can see your competitor and his keywords, ads etc.

How can I use spyfu to find local companies who are advertising on Adwords? Surely I need to know their search term? If they are advertising locally only then Spyfu will not see their ads will they?

let's say you are offering search marketing services in Nottingham, then try "SEO Nottingham", "SEM NOttingham" etc in spyfu.

You'll get a list of companies there

Also if you want to promote local businesses through Adwords then quite simply you could look them up in the yellow pages and contact those that you think would be potentially interested and setup deals with them on a per sale or action pricing model. Otherwise if you just want to find local spenders on adwords that are already in this game then I think the posts above cover it pretty well.
