First, you need to identify keywords that will bring relevant traffic to your site. Here are some suggestion tools and traffic estimators from Google:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox

Your text of the links pointing back to your site is important. Make sure they include your targeted keywords. Vary the text of these links as often as you can so that they look natural.

You can sumbit your site to free web directories (see my signature for a list), write articles and submit them to article directories, and use social bookmarking. These are free and will not hurt your pagerank.

To propose exchanging links, you must E-mail the owner of the Website you want your link on. Be courteous and offer them something in return like a link to their site. If it is a competitor, then that may not be wise.

There is a lot of information in this forum. Use the search option on top and you can find most anything related to SEO here.

    Good luck

Reciprocal links are not as helpful for SEO as one way backlinks. If I were you, I would focus on one way backlinks.

Reciprocal links require you to place a link on your site to theirs first. That link to their site can drain your page rank. Not to mention it takes a lot of time creating reciprocal links if you do not have the right software.

Are you using a form filling software for directory submissions? RoboForm.com has a good one, and the basic version is free. Just setup a profile for your site and it makes it much faster to submit.

it is simple try to look to search engine type your keyword and related sites will appear in the SERP, if you want to trade links with them go to contacts or search for the email add of the owner or webmaster and send an email requesting for a link trades.

Do some studying up on link bait and try that.

For your second question, you just need to send a sincere email asking for a link or whatever. You'll probably need to keep emailing them until you get a response because most webmasters simply hate getting these types of emails and delete them, I know I do, but if you're persistent the webmaster may finally give your email some thought.

Good luck, and I hope you get some links!
