How Can I convince my customer that his/her site is optimised for searching engines?

I'm not a professional SEO guy, but learned a lot tweaking my various blogs which I'm being doing for the last 2 years. Now I have people asking me to review their sites for SEs. But I'm in a dilemma.

How can I convince my customers that I have done the things that are required and she can expect a better results in the future?

I know it takes some time to show +ve results after doing SEO for a site.

See the problem is I don't want to take her money and hand over a dozen reports which she probably doesn't even understand. What I'm looking for is some kind of a tool or something the professional SEO guys provide to their customers when they finish their job.

I'm probably the wrong guy to answer this, because I don't consult. But if I were to hire someone to do SEO on a site the first thing I'd care about is whether they moved the site up in the SERPs for terms that I cared about.

The obvious way to measure this is to develop a list of keywords that the client cares about before you start working with them, and then track the progress of those keywords over time.

A second, less obvious, but equally valid way of tracking success is to look at how many keywords drive traffic to your client's site before you start working for her, and then after a month or two see if you've increased the number of long-tail keywords that she ranks for.

There are also a bunch of products out there that measure how well optimized a site is for SEO (Hubspot's http://www.websitegrader.com/ comes to mind). But I think these tools are primarily useful for driving inbound links to the company that creates them. I'm not convinced that they're actually particularly useful tools.

    Best of luck!
    -Chris

    here is what you do...
    - create a list of keywords before you SEO the site and search for their site in google , MSN , etc.. and list what rank their site is when you search for the keywords.

    - next do the SEO to their site and wait about a week to a month and do the same search for each keyword you used before and present the stats to your client.

this is the best way to show that their site has been SEO'ed... mind you i wouldn't pick the hardest keywords for their site just ones that are similar to what they offer that way it is easier to present better results

    - You can do keyword analysis with many softwares like wordtracker, keyword elite etc..you can use google for best results....:) , prepare a content with those keywords with 1-3% density of each keyword.

    - Then you should work on the meta tags , Do all other regular things like link building etc..

    - Then keep a record of the keywords performance , show it to your client when you can see a change

    Hope this helps you :)

There are tools that will show you exactly where your client ranks in search engines http://www.mtsolutionsweb.com/google-position-find.php. If you do the job properly and choose key words that suit you should see results almost immediately. My last client went from #423 in Google to #3 in two weeks, and now sits just below her largest international competitors. This is not rocket science but there are ways to get almost any page to the top ten. Knowing this one little white hat secret I use would change your SEO life forever.
Do a search in Google for this term "guide to dining in Ontario" my site is one year old, has almost no content is up against 11,300,000 other sites for that term has "0" page rank and "0" back links yet sits at #1. This was an experiment of mine to see if it works. My classified site out performs Craig's list for most of my 544 cities.

My point is this. How do you prove to her that you did what you said?
Show her real results. It doesn't take long to reach the top you just have to know how.
Hope this helped you out some

"convince"? Explain to the customer from the start that the effects won't be instant, before you commit to the project. Compare the rankings from the before and after data and PROVE your work was worth while. If you need to "convince", chances are you didnt do that great a job.

You get what I mean :D

Best of luck with your results when they come in!

    thanks Drreynolds!

mojobaabby, u your post throws at me more questions than answers! LOL :)
You are doing a great job man, from #423 to #3 isn't bad at all... hmm..."the one little white hat secret"...hmm...(I'm guessing) :)

adammiller, I accept that I used the wrong word and its because English isn't my first language. My apologies. It has nothing to do with the work, since I haven't started the work yet!
