    After reading the whole thread, i did not see any reliable answer but i got a perfect and reliable answer. All you need is to install SEO for Firefox. After installing preferably in firefox as i did not experience the samllie in IE. After installing, open up the browser, click Tools > SEO for Firefox > website lookup > enter the full URL to your website and press submit. Wait for all the information get loaded and then you can see your .EDU and .GOV links.

    For example - open yahoo.com and type in search text box linkdomain:http://www.simplifythis.com/ then you can definitely get yahoo back links.....

    Thanks for the nice tips and advice. link:yoursite site:.edu will tell u links from .edu sites and you can do the same for .gov sites just replace .edu with .gov.
