hello, I have a site about stock options where I sell an ebook about option strategies. Unfortunately, the site converts not so good. It's definitely below 1%. Do anyone of you have a suggestion how to increase CR? Maybe a complete relaunch of the site is the solution? Is there anyone who can do conversion optimized mini websites? Thanks
Not all of the following effects your ratings, but in general is indications of needing to redo the site. Some of it will increase traffic, some of it is to help have repeat visitors or site recommendations, some of it will enhance your search rankings... and some of it will drive down operating cost by reducing maintannence difficulty and bandwidth use. Lower operating cost at same price = higher profit margin. 1) Axe the flash banner. Search engines don't see that as content, a great many users (like me) won't even SEE it because they hat flash for presentation and have it disabled, and it's fat bloat that makes the page take too damned long to load. 2) shrink the size of the header area - you're pushing about 400 pixels before you start the TITLE for the content area, which with the excessively long question/header pushes the actual CONTENT completely offscreen at 1024x768 - people are going to glaze past the site without ever reading the actual content. 3) axe the stupid dreamweaver/macromedia javascripted mouseovers. That **** was a bad idea a decade ago, it's POINTLESS to waste time with it today. 4) Up the font sizes a hair and switch to dynamic fonts. The 'content' text on your page is useless to 'large font/120dpi' users (like myself) 5) Trim your copy and get to the product sooner. You are advertising for a product, but have advertisements for other people's stuff FIRST, with the link to actually buy your product as the LAST THING ON THE PAGE - that is an example of how NOT to market a product. 6) Switch to clean semantic markup and axe all the presentational elements. You've got 26k of markup for 7k of 'text'... a sure indication of 'doing it wrong'. I'd be surprised to see that page be much more than 13k of markup 'coded properly' - Simple semantics - marking paragraphs as paragraphs, emphasizing keywords, using header tags for headers, meaningful anchors, etc. etc. etc. will do more for your search rankings than 99% of the 'stupid search tricks' you see discussed on SEO websites, driving traffic and thereby increasing your advert revenue AND product sales. Basically, the code for the site has that '1997 feel' to it, while the layout is non-conducive to initial traffic... and then there's my final point: There is NOTHING on this site to create client retention - as such they probable would not bookmark the page - ever. A forums to discuss trading, a news section with stock news and trend predictions. If you are serious on building a site on the subject, you have to build a COMPLETE site on the subject, not a tiny little throwaway one-off that people have no reason to visit more than once. If you want, I can put together a quote on an initial recode, and some advice on rewriting your page copy and setting up the other stuff that would 'build' a community.
