    There are two SEO techniques first Black Hat SEO and second White Hat SEO....If you are using first one so google will surely penalized you...If you are using keyword stuffing or any other trick for getting good SERP so it will be very harmful for your blog....

    over optimizing
    duplicate content
    content stuffed with your keywords
    basically anything that Google doesn't have stated in their guidelines. (amator post the link above)

    You will be penalize by Google if you make lots of bad techniques ( Black Hat SEO ). You should avoid doing Black Hat SEO for you to not be penalize.

    Main thing is dont use duplicate content, keyword stuffing, using softwares for link building and then spamm website backlinks .... etc

    If you are doing Over optimization for your website then it will come under Black hat process. excess use of meta tags and keywords i.e keyword stuffing is another black hat process. so avoid these type of processes.
