How can i add smileys to my website?

This is the leastest thing i have to do for my website and i don't know how

How can i make my php website to intepretate smileys? I mean, when you post a message with ": )" to apear the smile face " " is this possible?

i would do it like this

$text=eregi_replace("","<img src='images/smile.gif'",$text);

echo $text;

 

Simple str_replace will do since there is no uppercase / lowercase for symbols.

But can i do it for two symbols? for example if i want " : - ) " to show the same smiley like " : ) ".

My simple method is- I'll copy the image in DP forum threads and paste in the wordpress writing page especially in between the article. That's all!!! Thanks to DP forums!!!

 

That works ok in wordpress, but my website is php custom made, and i wanted the smyles, to apear for the visitors...
