How can I add a comments box to my site?

I've been having a really frustrating experience with my host in adding a comment box to my site. First, he so slow in answering my questions and, secondly, his answers are always a little vague.

I'm trying to add a comment box to one of my existing pages and everytime I try to finish the install, I get a "The file config.php is not writable! CHMOD to 777" message. I asked my host if I can change the permissions (they are currently not set to "777") for the file but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

He also told me at one point that "that web site probably won't have access to connect to the server because it's located at a remote server. "

Then later, "Remotely hosted scripts should be easier to setup..."

I'm very confused. Does anyone have experience in setting up comment (shout) boxes? Thank you

look at the install doc that either came with the script - or is documented probably on their website. See which files need to be CHMOD'd then load up your FTP client, find the files, and change the properties of the folder(s) or file(s). I use smartFTP which allows you to right click on anything you want, and Change the permissions (CHMOD)

The script you downloaded should have a readme or some file giving you the code that you need to place on each page. Then download coffecup free ftp and right click the files that need the permission changed. Clicking every checkbox after right clicking file>permission's will give you 777 for the permissions.
