a speed of around 10k links per hour. Another is called Xrumer and is capable of
spamming forum profiles even faster. Learn how to use them and you are good to go.
Be ready to be hated by blog and forum owners and sometimes get your IP address
banned.

I DO NOT recommend you go this route.

 

Totally agree with kendu. the programs are used by blackhat 'seo experts' who want the quick way of getting sites up for their clients. if a clients site gets banned, they will drop the client and move on. Google will one day work out where all of the spam originates from and hopefully remove the experts own sites. I say this, because this black hat method ruins blogs and forums as well as making it very hard for honest website owners to honestly compete on good content.

 

this was a Q on this thread from 2007, but with recent google changes I think it has much more importance these days.

Here is my understanding of regular v featured. regular links are usually free ones that you can autopost or post with site owner approval to one or two small segments of the directory - essentially being buried except if people happen to search for your exact niche. A featured link usually costs a chunk of money, but it is displayed on a main page that gets many more visitors. It increases the chances of a click through and the PR of the page is also going to be bigger, so it passes on more juice. But of course depending on what you are selling, depends on if its worthwhile paying for the feature, what is your ROI?

Now, with google devaluing duplicate content (more successfully) and often disregarding directories which are a kin to link farms, it hardly seems of value to pay for a feature in most directories. Now if it is a leading industry directory (also good for branding considerations) or the directories show up competitors in high rankings for your keyword, you may actually consider a feature link to be of good value.
