    They say money is in the list, but looks like it costs money to have a list :(

    I think running any business entails some expense, really. All too often, the free ways of doing things end up costing more (the same is true with "free hosting"). There are some free autoresponders, but I think that (compared with Aweber) the price you pay in compromises on deliverability probably works out much higher than $20 per month. With autoresponders, I think you get what you pay for.

    Intentional , you can host an autoresponder/mailing list on your own server. Pay once and own it forever.. no monthly fees, etc.

    A really nice one that I recommend is Interspire's Email Marketer..
