I want to start a thread about blogs. I went to blogger.com about a week ago and started my own blog and I've begun writing for it. But I have a few questions. 1. What is the significance of a blog as far as marketing is concerned, how can you use it to earn revenue? 2. Why do none of the blogs I've seen at blogger.com have any page rank? Do blogs not have page rank? 3. Can blogs be used for Adsense? Any answers would be helpful.
A blog is just like any other website and you can earn money just like you would from any other site. Adsense is a great way to earn money from blogs and a popular one too. The advantage of blogs is that they are very search engine friendly, provided you update your blog regularly. Blogs are also the easiest way to create a site, as they are automated, you don't have to do any coding. Lastly, blogger.com blogs do have page rank, you must have visisted new blogs, so obviously they won't have page rank.
Yes, blogs can certainly be used for adsense. In simple terms, blogs are also websites so they are also assigned pagerank
If you decide to dig into the template code for your Blog and it's HTML, here are three very good sites for answers & Examples.. I would first recommend getting a blog on your own domain name using wordpress. Blogging for money isn't easy. I run a few blogs and they generate a fraction of the revenue my other content sites make. I believe blogs are more effective at reaching out to a very specific audience and providing them with quality and relevent content. From there you can either sell them products or, if you've managed to get into your industry/niche radar, you attract high paying advertisers.
Tesla, you could also ask over at Blog Party and read the posts there for more info as that forum is specifically about blogs and blogging - http://blogparty.com/blogpeople/ Great question.
Yes blogs can gain PR. My blog (http://tech-guru.blogspot.com) which i moved to gazotto.com had a PR5 in five months. So yes, blogs are just like websites and so they can gain PR. Skinny

my blog has PR3 in just 2 Months of it existance but the one on blogger.com is PR0 which I had started long time back the this new one. Also more so after the fact that the blogger.com is updated very regularly had good contents. Also it was indexed after the new blog and strangly after I put a link of the blogger.com blog on my NEW blog. This is kinda strange...
1. Blogs are a great way to make your site interactive. For more information on making money with your blog check out www.subnixus.com (my site)... it might not look like it, but it's a blog. There is also: www.problogger.com www.jensense.com , etc... 2. Blogs are just like any other site. Mine has a PR5 right now. 3. Yes. Like others have said, I would suggest getting your own hosting and domain, it just makes you stand out a bit more. Blogger sites tend to all look the same.
Make sure you do NOT have a BLOG at blogger.com or one of the other free blog sites. I am the guy that had 13 of them, I worked on the all daily, for over an hour each day, posting and building them up. I had nice traffic and AdSense on them. Then I made an error, I added a small section on the left hand side of each that was in text that said: LINKS: and had titles (descriptions) and urls of my other blogs. This got all of my 13 BLOGS deleted at once, for something called SPAM Blogs. I lost a year of hard work..... and I was told it only takes one click on the blogger 'flag' button to get you banned if the right representative checks out your blog and doesn't care for it, so beware
