How can article submitting build backlinks?

I have been writing and submitting articles to a few article sites (Article Alley, Go Articles, Ezine Articles, Amazines) and am wondering how this is going to help build me backlinks. I originally thought that with these articles people would be able to publish on there website, with my link in it, and that would help with my link building. I haven’t really seen this happen, all I see is people can create feeds to the article site, not publish my article on there site. Am I spending all this time writing articles to get 1 link from the article site? That main reason I am doing this is for link building, not for direct traffic if any that would come from the article.

Submitting articles to article sites is a common and arguably fruitful way to get backlinks and the sites you list with the exception of amazines, which I am not personally familiar with, are sites I and many here use. I think ezine is either the best or in the top 2 or 3 and most here seem to feel the same.

Generally if the article you are writing is well written, properly seo'd, and not a duplicate of other articles it should rank well. Also the links back to your site/blog will show up as a link back to you and help you with link building. A few articles won't help much and if someone picks up the article and republishes the article intact with all links intact you will get another back link, and another...........You may want to submit to Digg, Delicious, and other social bookmarking sites as well and try to get more bang from your buck.

    Hi DenRomano,

Ezine is the premier authority article site recognized by Google. The main purpose of article marketing is to leverage traffic from external sources by using relevant keywords in your article, for your niche. Your article can appear in three different places

    • At the article directory (Ezine, as an example)

    • On other people's Blog/Site (as you have been doing)

    • On the organic search results at Google for your particular keyword - This is the most important one, which will get you the most traffic, explained below

It's important to remember that it is not just Web sites which appear in the organic search results of Google, many are articles written by people like you and me.

Once your article is published at Ezine, Google will spider that article and if it contains certain keywords (which you have researched) that are highly searched (popular), but have fairly low competitiion (less than 40K), your article will invariably appear on the first page of Google for your primary keyword. The primary keyword should be the title of your article.

By low competition, I mean that when you put this keyword into google it returns less than 40K results. Any more and you probably won't get on the first page of Google. To research how popular a keyword is use Google's Free Keyword Tool, (brilliant keyword research tool).

Another important point is that keywords that qualify are usually long tail keywords. It's too difficult to find one word short tail keywords which will meet this criteria.

Your article will have a link back to your site or squeeze page at the bottom, so you will pick up traffic from people searching on Google for a specific keyword which forms the title of your article.

So in a sense you are not really bothered about getting direct traffic from Ezine but you need Ezine's reputation as an authority site in Google's eyes, to get your article spidered and listed by Google

Submit articles to like 400 sites....once they approve them(some slowly), and you write numerous articles that are keyword related, you will get MANY backlinks

Article marketing works best only when its done a lot. A great way to do this is by writing a ton of articles yourself or by paying someone to do that for you.

Article Alley and amazine are not good site for link building. Article alley is no follow and amazine is too slow to be crawled. Anything you submit in the article directory have to be bookmark too.
