Hi Pingpong 123 -- Wars and rumors of wars will continue until the end of history. You are correct in that the U.S. government has made some bad moves and bad mistakes over the years. Yes, we're oil addicted and I am not sure how much interest we would have in the Middle East if the area was oil free.

On the other hand, the U.S. has done much good in this world. Western Europe and Japan are two shining examples of where we rebuilt war destroyed countries. The U.S. could have humiliated Germany or Japan, but chose to rebuild them into the thriving economies that they are.

I don't put my hope for a perfect world apart from God. Fallen man will always conspire to make decisions that are selfish and cruel. As this thread started off, I am not "enjoying" Saddam's death but I can see where the Iraqi government wanted him permanently out of the way and according to their laws they sentenced him to death.

How is it absurd? Predictability has nothing to do with it. When he came to earth he left us with a living example of his life. Based off that we can draw conclusions of what is right or wrong, and therefore, what he would have done.

I can't be serious? You are a fool. The motive, means, and method in which the soldiers were sent out is much different - furthermore, the soldiers enlisted. They knew the risks and were willing to take them. People like you give America a bad name.

You don't have to "like" the death penalty to realize that oftentimes it's necessary.

LPS, come on mannnnnnnnn. Everyone knows our soldiers mean well but everyone also knows that soldiers are very naive and patriotism is always used against them. I feel we should pass a law that says every senator and congressman that voted for this war send their loved oned ones to iraq.

Yes we have done some good as u said, i cant deny those examples, but i think the america that rebuilt japan and germany isnt teh same america we have today.

If kennedy wasnt assasinated his directives would have stuck and the power for post war time covert paramilitary activites would have been transferred from the cia to the joint chiefs of staff, we the people of this great country would have been able to vote on our forign policies.

Because this wasnt allowed to happen, our intelligence agencies have free reign with almost no accountabilities as far as secret operations in 3rd world countries. Another of kennedys directives would have allowed congress to keep a tab on cost and what weapons the intelligence community uses in its arsenal.

LPS, did u ask our government why they decided to hold secret the house select committee on assasinations info on kennedy till the year 2029??????
Im just shocked people that this doesnt bother anyone enough to make a big deal about it. If my government can lie to me once and also keep covering up the lie how can i trust them again?

Your right that god is the one i trust most but wouldnt god want us to speak out against injustice??????

LPS sorry but im not a blind robotic fool that takes orders without demanding whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

LPS are u saying that everyone who doesnt an absolute blind patriotism and is being used a fool? I wish good ole albert was alive on this forum . Maybe u can also call him a fool for not being a blind robot

Here is a quote from the greatest mind of the 20th centure albert einstein.

"The really valuable thing in the pageant of human life seems to me not the State but the creative, sentient individual, the personality; it alone creates the noble and the sublime, while the herd as such remains dull in thought and dull in feeling.
This topic brings me to that worst outcrop of the herd nature, the military system, which I abhor. That a man can take pleasure in marching in formation to the strains of a band is enough to make me despise him. He has only been given his big brain by mistake; a backbone was all he needed. This plague-spot of civilisation ought to be abolished with all possible speed. Heroism by order, senseless violence, and all the pestilent nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism — how I hate them! War seems to me a mean, contemptible thing: I would rather be hacked in pieces than take part in such an abominable business. "

Since God established the death penalty in the case of intentional murder (accidental murder got you banishment) what are you saying about God? Jesus never spoke against the death penalty despite being a victim of it and he was innocent. You'd think he'd be the poster boy for protests against the death penalty.

Christians are not perfect so occasionally even "true" Christians will have a reaction to something that is not appropriate. Enjoying his death may be inapproriate (I think his victims have a right to be happy about it) but his punishment certainly wasn't.

Kalvin like i have always believed. History and accountability go to the victors.
Will we hold a war tribunal for teh people responsible for getting 3000 america troops killed based on a lie? This execution is dangerous because it screams of our hypocrisy. We can hold world leaders to crimes but we cant hold our own?

This screms out 10000000% complete bias. I dont and never supported saddam in my life but i know when it served out interest our government turned a blind eye to his gassing of the kurds among other crimes. Now that it serves out interests we are doing a good act????????????????? To me its all about intentionsssssssssssssssssssss and we both know that our governments first intention is about oil, always has. If it was about democracy we would have allowed mossadegh in iran to flourish and because of this iran turned to fanatical islam. It is our responsibility as the american people to speak out. The people of the globe dont live here, we do.

Matt , your right about japan and germany but they were connected to ww2, and the way i see it, the american government of ww2 right after ww2 is a different government than it is today. Eisenhower warned against the unwarranted growing power of the military industrial complex in his farewell speech and this is exactly what happened.

"This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades"

Please tell me you're joking. You're insulting the intelligence of our troops - why are they anymore naive than the rest of America? And you're saying that senators should send their love ones to Iraq? What the heck? That makes no sense whatsoever.

    Completely
irrelevant to the topics at hand.

    Yes, he would. What injustice?

I'm asking you why right now. Explain your reasoning if you want anyone to believe your views.

Of course not. Just go ahead and draw whatever conclusion you'd like.

Most are in guantanamo, detained in Iraq, or buried in Iraq. They were held responsible, just ask zarqawi.

saddam is dead, get over it. There is no hypocrisy, except in your world of delusion.

I previously corrected you on this, yet you still continue to assert it. Demonstrating that you are only interested in bashing your country without regard for facts. A blind eye was not turned. In fact, it raised serious concern in our government and immediately strained relations. Shortly after saddam invaded kuwait, an ally, thus continuing to strain relations.

Try speaking out with facts for a change. Blame America first!
