If you're starting out a new site in a competitive market, how would take on the on big guys in terms of SEO? Obviously, you're at a major disadvantage. I would start by ranking well on less competitive keywords. Any more ideas?

If I was entering a competetive niche I would make sure my website was very well optimised for the keyword I'd want to rank for. After that, it's case of on-going link building to push your site up the SERP's (once you are indexed). Depending on the size and authority of the competing site(s) this could take a couple of months to see good results. Hope that helps.
