    Hello, Everybody,

This my first post to this forum. I come back here every day to read all the latest. It´s like my morning newspaper that i can enjoy during my first coffee in the day.

I decided to wait with my first post until I have something really interesting to say.

    Well, here it is:

Edison GE, a billion dollar major coproration, has copied web desing from Estonian telecom firm Elion. It´s kinda funny how billion dollar company can do something like that. What is your opinion about that?

I've had a couple of (not small) clients a while back. When discussing their project before creating a functional spec, talk would usually turn to what sites they liked and elements of those they'd like to see on their site. In the case of these two clients, I had to spend a long time convincing them that they don't want an identical copy of the site they liked. I almost lost a contract over it!

it might not have been the billion dollar companies decision to copy this site, usually this kind of work would be outsourced to a web design company and they would probably have copied it.

Well, i have to apologize. It seems that the copied site was just a sample and not real site.

It looks extremly identical though. Heh, oh well, the differences are enough that it shouldn't matter. Obviously their was some skill in the graphics of the new site though, for the cards looked pretty nice.

I would be willing to bet that there is a signifficant enough difference that it does not matter. I would also like to ad that as a large company, they typically don't want your website to look revolutionary or anything. It be a similar and comfortable experiance to their users.

    I agree with "jellyfish"...
Looking at both designs I feel they are sufficiently different.

Most of the design layout is accepted standards. Very common and almost expected.
Content however is very different. Are you certain they didn`t each just use a CMS and similar layout template?

No. Elion´s website probably costs tens of thousands of dollars. There is no simple layout template used, all custom. And site is built in java.

That might be true on its backend but that front page is a very general layout and is commonplace on the web. There are only so many ways you can layout a page and be user friendly. Nothing really special here. Just good and functional the way a corporate entity likes it. When form follows function, it seems intelligent minds think alike. So repetition of what works is expected...

probably a template, or didn't buy exclusive rights from the designer. Shady either way.

Sufficiently different? The arrow picture on the Products, Solutions, Industries headings is exactly the same!
So too is the green box with the Now, Next, Beyond options.
Even the name to me is similar Edison-Elion.

All Edison's is really missing is pic of an alien waving at you! :D

Priidik, did you design these elements or get them from somewhere (the same place Edison did?).
