How Big Of A Budget Would It Take To Get On The First Page Of Google For...

We have a client who is interested in competing with Constant Contacts, Vertical Response, iContact, Benchmark Email, Get Response, etc... to be on the first page of Google for the keywords "Email Marketing". Is this even a possibility? If so, how big of a budget would it take and how long? We've done our history on this and realize that all of the sites on the first page of Google exist there because they have 100K-500K+ backlinks! Is it possible to even bid this job?

The challenge will be to get some high quality links to compete with those companies. You can get that many low quality links, but you will most likely need some high quality ones which will probably be costly. It is difficult to estimate what the budget would need to be.

Our thoughts exactly. The companies that exist on the homepage have thousands of links from PR4+ sites. Possibly blackhat SEO might work, but it wouldn't be effective longterm.

I find it hilarious a so called SEO Firm Even asks such things on a forum

I would charge 20-30k and time frame 8-12 months but i wouldn't promise miracles and consider good results even Page 2 Rankings ...

Sometimes SEO companies or SEOs may already have an answer to a question, but want to get input and insight from others within the SEO community. If that is the case here I see no problem in doing that.

There have been a few times I have an idea of what I want to do, but before I act on something I throw it out to the SEO community to see if what they say aligns with my plans.

Thats exactly the case. We've already given our proposal, and just like any reputable SEO company, we could not promise first page results for that specific keyword, but other keyword strings. To obtain our clients goal we estimated more than 30K. We love a good challenge, so we hope they bite. In case they do we want to have our t's crossed.

I would suggestion go for long tail keyword including the work email marketing in it. I believe 70% of searches happen on long tail words.
e.g. go for niche market say - email marketing for jewelry website or affordable email marketing company
The above will get you quality traffic and easier to rank the words. They will all build your ranking for email marketing slowly. There are no times lines as to when.
    What other think?

thanks for your input imaginewebedge! I think you're totally on the right track, I just have to persuade the client to that strategy if they plan on being cost effective.
