Anyone else notice that a bunch of simple websites, that don't get traffic (some of them have traffic monitor widgets/apps on the side that shows you how much traffic they are getting per day) have PR's in the 3-6 range? I've even found a website that has not posted any new content since 2010 that has a PR of 6. Are they doing some sort of black hat thing? Do they just have 1 website with a very high PR linking to it? My website gets 400 unique visitors a day with about 350 backlinks and I still have a PR of zero. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. P.S. This is the best forum area I could think of for this post, if there is a better section feel free to move it or let me know for future reference.
I understand where you're coming from, I have a blog with about 300 uniques and around 150 backlinks according to alexa, and yet like you I'm a PR zero! I don't quite understand how these websites have come about with such high PR's except that perhaps the've been around for a long while as a guess. How long have you had your site for?
Just under 5 months...Do you think my domain age is the problem? I guess that would make a lot more sense if they have less backlinks then me, but if google trusts them more due to their age?
I think age plays a significant role (as far as G is concerned). I remember reading once that scammy/spammy sites come and go very quickly, so in the eyes of Google sites that actually stick around are less likely to fall into that category.
im still trying to understand why that is happening, google changed their algorithm, so it might be the cause.
use a variety of social media sources to get traffic. I use social media bookmark sites and micro blogging sites
Well frankly speaking pagerank really doesn't matter that much. However if you really wanna have some good pagerank, you need to get some high rated and high pagerank links. Why dont you just go for some 4-5 PR8s sites link backs and you will get atleast a PR6. Basically it is nothing to related how much traffic you get daily. Also the site you are talking about which has no content since last one year and still has PR6, because it is just stuck there and even if someone posts one article or change something to get the google bots notice, the pagerank will come down instantly
One of the proof that PR is useless and people shouldn't bother with it Sadly some never or refuse to understand this ...
Have you had a look at the domain age. It matters a lot. On the last pagerank update i have had 2 domain that were 1 year old, and i did not do much seo on them, and they updated from PR0 to PR 1. Today i have other domain, that are less then 1 year older and i still have PR0. So domain age it is very important to SEO.
so you don't want a PR9 site then? Happy with a big fat zero? PR is google's 'shorthand' way of saying 'how important' it thinks a page is in the general scheme of things (the scheme, of course, being a multi-billion node interlinked set of connections). If you don't think it's important, good luck to you. The external representation of PR, via published pagerank indicators etc is of course far less important, because it doesn't get updated very often. In the same way, a webcam that only updated once a day would be less interesting than one which updates every 5 minutes. Still, it's the closest thing to a 'handy' number we have to detect what google actually thinks about a page. Ignore it at your peril.
Well it would seem to me that a website with a high PR would mean that google thinks you are more important and therefore you would be higher in the google SERP's for whatever your main keywords are, which means more traffic...am I wrong with this assumption?
Maybe a website can turn bad after accumulating backlinks. Or you can also build PR by off page SEO where it wont matter that your website is good or bad.
No Have you ever heard about buy web site or domain that already have page rank ? may be that was caused
