    Hi,

How badly can I suffer if I dont have <meta keyword = and <meta description in my page.?

Will google generate its own keywords and description?

I really never worry about keywords.

But having a unique description tag is still very important. Google still uses the description tag for its SERP description and it helps keeping your pages out of the supplemental results.

    On that note.

I cant seem to get my description changed when I search for my site in google. What comes up is my old info that I used to have to describe my site. Its been quite a few days now (maybe 5 or so) can it take longer for google to update my site meta-blah blah description/tags whatever they want to call it ? Cheers.

Yeah. For some reason for google being such a powerful engine, they are behind almost all the time. It depends on how popular your site is. I have had pages that have taken up to a month to get the fresh info in googles data.

You dont suffer at all because google dont place weight on meta keyword, because of the history when people where spamming it..if you cant create a meta tag its ok just leavit alone instead you should focus on the content, because content is the king

A good description tag (which often get used as the description in the results list) will make a big difference on whether people choose to click your result or someone elses.

I thought that description tag was more important than the keywords. It's like "first impression" to the users.

Keywords help you get into the results in the first place, then the description becomes useful for improving the ctr of your result listing.

    I never worry about keywords.
However, I do spend some time on the description as Google seems to use it in its SERPs

In my opinion, the keyword tag is not really used anymore (atleast upfront). They used to be used in the old days as the search engines would use these for their results for the keyword searching, but now the search engines are so advanced in the scanning of the entire page now. Just my opinion though.

Actually I think you're right. I was talking about keywords in the content not in a meta tag in response to sallys post.

I say you need both but i have had sites with none get ranked in google and yahoo. Most of the time they pick up some words from site and list it for that.

Google is so behind right now i see websites that are gone for over 6 months still in top 5. If they are updating it is only sites with site maps because alot of results are so old some sites are gone or are message board posts years old

Concentrate on using your keywords in the body of your article. As others have said a short and unique description is best.

I never waste my time on Keywords
i always give preference to Description, because google still consider META Description, but among all content on your webpage is very important.
because now a days SE's used to index whole page insted of only looking at just Description or Keywords

It's a biggest mistake not to use title and description for keywords. Keywords are not important

    Hello there,

When you have the opportunity of providing Title, keyword and description...there's no harm in providing them.If you dont want to research or give much of your time just place the title relevant to your site, write a good description which relates to your site and that's it...you are done with it :)

Till date there has not been a negative case found on inserting title and description...so go ahead and place them, who knows when does Google bot considers which one :)

    Regards
    Smita
