How Bad is Duplicate Content?

I have a site where I tell scary stories on a podcast from both stories I have personally written and stories that others have written on a CC3 license. I tell approximately 3 stories at a time so I combine the stories with the CC3 license so that people listening can also read along if necessary. Unfortunately, I also think this is hurting my page rank and SEO.

I'm wondering if it would be better to write small 300 word or so blurbs for each story and link back to the original, or does combining 3 stories from 3 different pages really make a difference? I am required to link back to the original story anyway as part of the creative commons license.

I mean, if I could write a 4K word horror story or two of my own on a daily basis I would do that instead, but I don't have the time because I record the stories and I have another business that pays my bills.

    Thanks for your help.

First think about your readers what they will think. Are they going to read it?

Think about Google and SEO later.

I would think they'd read it but how would they find it? I do put it out with social media, on the podcast but outside of that if I can't rank then how can outsiders find it?

What is your reason for producing the podcast?

If it's affecting your SEO then it's better to use the content in some other format. You can try using slide sharing sites to share stories written on a CC3 license. This won't be counted as a duplicate content as you are sharing it in some other format. Make sure you give the resource as CC3 license.
