Im standing over the choise of buying a 2 world brand name .net domain name or a 1 world brand name .ws or .co domain name..

How bad is "under-domains" like .ws and .co too the big daddy .com and .net?

lol, I was surprised when I so .we in the thread title.
From what I understood from your post, I think it depends on the traffic you suppose to get. If you want local traffic chose ccTLDs like .co, .me, .ws etc, but if you want worldwide traffic than get a gTLD like .com .net etc.
Two words .ccTLD will decrease the domain value.

.co is a global TLD like .com

    The only difference is:

    - One is shorter to type then the other.
    - One is older then the other.

You cant compare ANY extension to a .com . A .com TLD is ten X better than any other TLD in my Humble Opinion!

They aren't "bad" ...but they aren't even close to the value of a ".com" or even a ".net" !

.net is dying a slow death. .org is a great extension but has nothing to do with "business' per se. So we are left with .com for companies....and there is a ton of room for .CO to fulfill a requirement in the market that .com cannot.

    Yup, what he said!

When did you ever see a .co, a .cc, a .whatever come up in a Google search of yours? Locals (like .co.uk if in the UK) and .com is where it is at. Maybe .net and .org at a push. The rest? Fuggedaboutit.

I wouldn't buy .we .ws or any of those things just because I couldn't find a good .com/.net/.org substitute.
I'd only go for them if I have a specific reason, for example localization, or if it looks really cool, such as about.us or deli.cio.us, etc. etc. You got my point.

there are .co domains you can purchase right now
and sell in 11 months for $40k.

there is no .com that can do that.

My choice is always .COM because nothing beats it up.. However, I'll go for other extensions if I have a very strong reason to do so.. But, please be careful when you're buying a domain name which associates with a famous brand name.. Sometime it could even backfire you..
