Hi, I have a website running for 4 months now. However, the current ranking is very low. Recently, I realized that the website doesn't have any ref links from other websites. I wonder how important is the backlinks ? Most importantly, what are the good strategies to improve the factor? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks, Miata
Depending on what it is important for, for ranking? Yes but for in general? Yes and no. But as for getting some backlinks, if the website is a blog then I suggest that you look into ping backlinking which can be very successful for blogging. There are a few ways that you can get some backlinks, link exchange which I don't recommend, buy link spot as some blogs or websites offer links sale to be replaced on their website and if you don't see any ads spot on their website then go ahead and contact them via e-mail or on social media if they have any to ask if they would sell a link placement on their website or blog. Secondly, you can do guest blogging for some blogs. Some blogs owner looks for bloggers to write a article (must be original) and often in return they will pay you but instead you let them know that you'd like to add your link in that article you wrote as a guest for a backlink or possibly to add a link to your website on their blogroll. Submit your website or blog to directory such as DMOZ, Yahoo! Directory and others. If it's a blog, submit your feed/RSS so that every articles you write will show up on their Feed/RSS directories. These are three way you can get some backlinks, although link exchange is dangerous now as search engines no longer likes them and won't count them for ranking unless you are lucky. The best of all in backlinks building: Social media. Share link to your website on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, StumbleUpOn, Pinterest, Digg, Delicious, Reddit and many more. Add your website or blog link in your signature, because each reply or threads you made will be considered backlinks if the forums accept dofollow and if you are to add the links to your signature I suggest that you read the rules first before you do because some forums only allows one, two or three and some allows four or five or more.
@miata Its important to a website that features new and interesting content for the target audience so that related sites will link to you as a good source to share in their network.
all the bad advice can make anyone gag. There are many factors that can determine if you are succeed or not. 1: Great content! I mean content that will give someone a hard-on, and they would be willing to get you a backlink without thought, and this is because your site is above exceptional, not some content written from iWriter. you need exception content, graphics, site design; These are the type of sites that can earn money within 6-12 months without much effort on link building.... 2: awesome backlinks! For those sites that do not deserve, nor do they get natural backlinks, then they have to acquire "authority" links, and I am not talking about $5 links on fiver, and beware of those sellers that claim high "authority" they are often buy expired domains with high DA/PA, and sell you some type of backlink; In reality, these high "authority" sites have bad backlinks themselves, and it will pass right to your site. and if your content sucks, then your backlinks will mean very little as you will end right back up where you started off, which is no-where. I have heard of people posting content without link building, however their claims have stated that it has taken them several years to reach any level of success. 3: How much is your budget? No budget? then expect no level of success. If you expect to have the best content, and backlinks that will move your site up the chain, then you will need money to take you to the next level... You will get nothing from outreach as this is very time consuming, and most report very little success; directories are worthless, even though people still recommend them; social media is worthless unless you have mass followers... Your desire has to be very strong! It will take a lot of money, work, and time. If you do not have the passion, then you will drop out if you do not see fast results, and i assure you, most often then not, results will not be fast. Did you think just because you had a website for 4 months that you were just going to get backlinks? Sorry, only exceptional sites will get natural backlinks. I read about a site doing just this; he put up one hell of a site, he did very little link building, and within 4-6 months, he was earning $3k/mo but like I said, you would have one hell of an exceptional site.
Possibly the massive promotion, paid or free, of any decent or above average website might encourage quality websites to link to you without being asked. As the poster above said, they would be the best backlinks.
