There is no right answer. I just would not add 1000's of links over night.

    I add a few every day...here...other forums...press releases...articles...

I do not buy links, submit to directory or use link farms. I do submit my RSS feeds form my blog :)

    Just my experience.

I totally agree with it... It can hurt you rather than boost your rankings up.

You can build as fast or as slow as you want, the key is to remain consistent.

i think 1k backlinks in a day is not a big number but 100k backlinks in day is big

^ isnt it called spamming? ;)

well, its ok to add few QUALITY backlinks for your site everyday.
you can also try targeting related sites with high PR....just my suggestion.

I think now google has such classic tools like toolbar, feed burner, urchin stats etc. They really can identify what kind of traffic did your site gets and ether your backlinks are proportionate to it.
See if you site have 10 visitors a day and you are building 100 links per day it will look suspicious in eyes of google and you will land up in sandbox. It is better to build continuous High PR relevant backlinks.

But you forgot all of them are not cralwed on the same day unless they are from the same IP..

As long as the cralw difference date is there, no problems.. go ahead with as many links as u can..

But hey, links should be one way..if they are one-ways, then nothing will harm u..

coz if they would harm, competitors would rather get links build for the competiting sites inspite of working on thier own sites..

btw, I am workin on an experiment at SEOChat, As of now in which its clear that NOW a days (means recently, from 2 weeks or so) getting too many one ways are leading to a drop in the SERPS.. it has been done at 3 sites, 4 is underway.. no final conclusions as of now.. but something seems to be changing..

Although personally I think this kinda loophole shudnt stay for long.. it must be temporary..or uprooting sites would be easy like kickin ..... lol

    Hope that helps..

best bet is to provide content that people want to link to - link bait

if you get a good concept setup then all links are one way, relevant, consistent and in keeping with your traffic/back link ratio.

Building back links badly can and will damage your sites ranking as you will be associated with bad neighbor hoods,

same goes for building to many to quick links. Some directories are being penalized now for selling links

if you do buy links check the content of the page and think what will the spiders think. If there is text plastered all over it saying link exchange, buy links, cheap links, swap links etc etc then this wont be as effective
as text stating "recommended links, usefully resources or safe browsing" etc etc

best place to start reading up on it is the seo book

    enjoy

Depends on the quality of your site I guess and factors like PageRank, LinkPop etc. I think slow but steady link building should do well. It's hard to tell numbers. I prefer less links with higher quality.

Hi, there is no magical number. Follow the golden rules when it comes to link building, "Slow and Steady" and "Find Quality Links". Rather than getting thousands of links each month, spend your efforts on acquiring quality links from authority sites in your field.

Hmmm, maybe a thousand links per month, or just 30 to 50 links per day
