How backlink is calculated?

I submitted by site 1000+ directories,press release sites I have a site with 35 backlinks only.
My question is how backlink is calculated by google.?

When did you submit the link? - if you just submitted it then it is probably pending for approval in many directories, also another reason could be that the page where your link exists may not be indexed by Google, so just wait for some time to see the results. Best way to keep track of Google is to sign up with Google Webmasters, that way you get a picture of your website from Google's perspective.

 

123 is correct not all of ur links would be approved yet if u just submitted to the sites it takes time so wait

 

How you're checking backlinks ? Use Yahoo Site Explorer to check baklinks. I think you're using link: (link operator) to check backlinks which doesn't work at all
