I signed up to Twitter two years ago (May 2007) and sent out a couple of tweets (which had nothing to do with what I was eating or what time I was going to bed ) and then lost interest. Lost interest in a way because I could not see how I could effectively use Twitter as a useful tool. I wasn't about to add more noise to the internet by mindlessly bleating about useless information. Over the last couple of years I have seen some people use Twitter to good effect, but it wasn't in such a way that it could be duplicated. Customized, maybe. But their approach was creative and individual. It was only when I started to see the power of Twitter as a real time search engine that I began to see the possibilities. Especially searching with #tags. And then I saw the potential of tweeting with #tags. Seeing that I write and publish a lot of articles online I'm beginning to see the huge opportunity to broadcast to an audience that's far bigger than my paltry list of followers. So, how are you using Twitter?
I have been on Twitter about two years as well and did not see the point at the time....who really cares what the hell I am doing?? I know I don't care much if someone is sitting in Starbucks dreaming about being a frog or something just as crazy..... Seems that marketers may be changing the usefulness of it now.
LOL! I like what this guy has to say: http://twitter.com/themime They are. Most for the worse. But some are actually using it creatively and effectively.
I really just use Twitter to randomly link to my postings and websites. Gets a bit of extra traffic to sites that aren't doing too well with the search engines yet.
Personally I only use Twitter to send updates to people who actually know me, which was it's original intent. I don't see any point in 'following' people I don't even know and have never met, or vice versa. I am sure there is a way to use Twitter effectively for marketing, but if people Tweeted me lots of stuff like that I would just quit following them.
It has really helped me increase my blog readership. I to do not attempt to mindlessly type in what I am doing, rather I use it to ask questions and attempt to connect with people. It has really helped the readership in a couple of my blogs. Make sure you don't spam it though or you will lose the effect since people will un follow.
