    We use an unmanaged dedicated server. We do all server admin tasks ourselves.

    Shared hosting, start small and grow from there. No point starting huge (and paying for it) and then downgrading.

    I have a reseller account with HostGator. They have pretty awesome support and I haven't had any issues. I host many accounts now without a hiccup.

    Depends on the budget you have. Dedicated servers seem more reliable. HostGator is ok, good client service.
