One of the most successful directories of all time is Yahoo. They started out as a directory just like many of you have right now, but over time became much more by adding more areas of content to their site. I am curious to know what directory owners are doing now, or plan to do soon to add more content to their directory.
If you look at Forplex Business Directory you will see many content specific features all which we keep editing and updating We are working on new features for the future to keep the site fresh appealing and interesting One of our new feature seems to have been noted as G set it at PR5 for an innner page and we have bunch of content inner pages that are PR5 Here is one example which includes our daily 'Cool Site Of The Day' feature http://www.forplex.com/business-directory-articles/
You mean, aside from the listings themselves? Not a whole lot, at the moment. My original thinking was to separate my directory sites and content-based sites altogether, in order to simplify things. I mean, do I really want to have directory listings competing for attention with other content, such as articles or a blog? I'm in the process of rethinking that approach, though. I'm wondering whether a directory that's a destination in its own right, rather than merely a site that you visit on the way to somewhere else, would be more successful.
I think finding ways to add more than just links is going to become increasingly important to directory owners. There has to be something that sets the directory apart, as well as reasons that people would want to return to the site because of some feature or to see updated content.
Hi David, I am posting unique directory related articles here http://www.linksholder.com/blog/..I've also hired someone to write me uinque gadgets related articles! Will be adding a lot of content ! Saad

I added a blog to my directory with Seo articles, articles about domain names, photoshop tutorials, free wordpress themes, adsense tips and much more. Of course the content is all unique and written by me.
I am going to start adding all my articles from article site to my link directory as soon as I can get convert from one db to another
I use to check out articles and downloads from Aviva Directory. 2 thumbs up for both the articles and download they provide. I think i will start up articles-in-directory type soon. Thanks. David Cheong.
You need to have a script that allows users to post content. Having your users help out in addition to your efforts will make the job of growing your website much easier.
Most of my directories will be recieving descriptions for catagories as well as Good PR links for this coming round as last round was just about building directories. I may decide to throw some news like yahoo or somthing that is constantly updated by itself and delivering fresh content. thx malcolm
I have a separate blog for my two directories. Mostly about showcasing shows which are listed in the directories. But the blog is on a different domain so that at least the links will help a little.
Blogs are nice, I did just that four months ago, but i think dvduval is trying to say what are the contents within your directories. phpLD has a feature that many of you know by now since after the update which allows you to add an articles within your categories. I will be taking advantage of this Article in the coming weeks as I am busy with my other projects. I can't wait for the video addition for phpLD?
We are almost finished with a new addition that will allow users to submit articles. It is almost complete. You will be able to sell articles just like you do for links now. The video mod is already available in the supporters forum. You can see an example here: http://www.directhoo.com/index.php?list=latestvideos
Cool, Thanks David for great additions to your script..I was thinking about creating a blog for main categories and then link them from categories but i think i should upgrade to 3.2 from 3.1 Saad
