I'm hangin around some directories since a few days and I saw that a website is number 1 in the top hits page of about 100 directories.Even mine! How are they doing this?Is there a software or a script which generates them hits through directories? They have at least 40 hits on every directory. You can see the website if you check my directory(panc web directory in my signature). One of them is a real estate/apartments and the other one is a catering website. If somebody knows how they do it please tell and let's patch it.
add nofollow to top hits or even remove the top hits altogether some sites are targetting these pages by clicking their own sites I just removed the top hits page
They're probably sitting there with their fingers on the mouse refreshing their visit to kick up a fake visit run in a bid to make their customers either existing or potential think they are better than they are? Just a guess here though, they may genuinely be the best on the planet and have millions of visitors? If they are tell them their template falls apart in i.e 7.
Yes I added a nofollow attribute to top links a few weeks ago. They are everywhere, in every directory.Unbelievable.They must be running a script or using proxy.I really wonder how they do it.
It must be a script. I can't imagine somebody would manually click 40 times per day on a directory link, or if they did they'd soon get bored. Just get rid of the top hits section... that will put a stop to their cunning plans.
I have one in mine the same but i dont see it as a problem. After all they paid to get there, so if they want to keep coming back and clicking to stay at the top position, thats up to them i guess.
There is nothing wrong with it but it causes unfair advantage over other listings.I wish I knew how they do it.I'm really curious.
OK I found out that the owner of that tricky website is a member in this forum. Now I sent him a pm and asked how he does it.Hope he answers.
I had an advertiser doing the same thing when my site was new. Every few days she would come and click 5-10 times on her listing. You should be able to see them doing this in your site logs. You could ban their IP range and/or send them an email letting them know that they are breaking your terms of service. (Of course, I would add that bit to my TOS before I sent the email.) My problem went away when my directory started getting a fairly nice bit of traffic and the site owner realized she was fighting a losing game. Ironically, I was getting ready to drop her listing when she finally quit doing it. I have noticed that on most general directories the threshold to get to the #1 ranking for hits is usually pretty low. To be honest, I'm surprised someone hasn't done something like this a long time ago.
Finally he answered my pm and here is the message he sent me: Hi hazardouspunch I`m sorry, its only seo. Best regards I still don't understand what kind of script can make this.Or is he messing with the click grabber javascript code?
Back in the day I made a program for someone that would post tens of thousands of unique clicks, visits & votes per hour - it's not hard to do, the code that went into making the program only took like 30 - 50 lines of code. It's an easy thing to do, but definately deteriates the quality of the lists and directories - I havent had anything to do with it for about 3 years now.
If you got paid 1 cent per 10 clicks of a mouse because it earned you twice as much you'd be getting paid to be bored.
