How are these ads made?

    Hi all!

This morning I volunteered at a homeless holiday event where we gave our gifts to the homeless. Last night I was doing searches on google on homelessness to see if I could find statistics and such. When I searched "homeless" I got a bunch of ads that seemed a bit "out there."

For example, there was "Find HOMELESS on eBay!" and "Sexy HOMELESS Singles" and "We have HOMELESS and much much more!" My question is, how in the word do they generate these ads? Do they have some type of script that randomly plugs the word in so their ad will appear? I really can't imagine ebay putting in homeless as a keyword, but I could be wrong. I'm just curious, as this seems a bit strange.

I have the image on my blog. Wasn't sure if I could post it here.

    Matt

Yeah that sucks. Try ANY word from the dictionary and you will see at least 1 eBay ad, one Amazon ad, one eDirectory ad and then another 6 aff ads from the same people.

It really sucks that these places spam advertise like that, just because they can afford it. It really isn't fair for someone that wanted to target keywords for helping the homeless, because they would have to pay more just to get above the junk ads. Thats really sad. I hope that some day they decide to do something to prevent the needless spam. I realize it brings them more money but I think it makes amazon and ebay and especially google look bad.

So you can target any word? I know that sounds obvious, but could you target words like "the" and "a"? It just seems amazing to me that eBay would even want to target "homeless". I can't see them doing that, as who would actually go to eBay to buy a homeless person. Do they have an automated system that just sets up their ads for them?
