How API keys will help my website

I have already launched 19,000 pages content rich website But I do not know about the google API Key, what it is ans how it will help me in getting more traffic.

 

I had one of these but have lost it and I know they've stopped giving them out.. Anyway, when I used it to check my google ranking at googlerankings.com, I could enter any website URL.

Surely this means I could 'borrow' an API key from someone and use it to check my google rank?

What do ya think...

Could someone post their API key so I could try it out?

Hi. I keep my Google API and not easy to get new API. It is needed when you want to use the googlerankings.com.
