Ok, I am tempted to setup a new proxy but I don't really know much about making good money with them, I know that some people make a good bit of money and then others don't do well at all so what are the secrets to success with making a nice little bit of pocket money with a proxy?
As long as you promote it on all different kinds of topsites and such, and get some backlinks, etc. after that just set up some ads and you'r done
Well Adsense is what most people use, and it is best if you use that too, with good amount of traffic you can make lots.

The main way to make money through a proxy is using Google Adsense and using Adbrite on proxified pages. Other ways include selling links on your proxy, or selling your proxy altogether once it has been established.
