In terms of bidding - you enter a bid for a keyword and it will tell you what position your ad will show based on that bid. Increase or decrease your bid accordingly depending on where you want your ad to display. There are niche areas where you can get a 1.0 for 10p, there are also expensive areas where you can pay £15 (at least) for a 1.0.

    You have numerous display options:

    - Google Search
    - Search Network
    - Content Network

Personally, I always display on the search networks only because those people are activly seeking the information I'm providing rather than being click-happy and costing me money on adsense sites. Depends on your market.

You can decide how much you wish to spend in any given period. If you are going for a competitive market sector, you best have deep pockets because it isn't cheap. Don't expect any favours from Google either! I would imagine I am one of the highest spending UK companies and I get bugger all favours from them!

    Good luck!

sometimes learning on a second tier pay per click site is better than starting out with the big dogs.

A good top tier ppc to learn on is overture - mainly because they have good keyword tools that tell you how many times your keyword was searched to previous month - also they allow you to see what other people are bidding.

The probleme with adwords is you often time are bidding blind and that can cost you money sometimes.

Keep an eye on your campaign and learn fron the feedback. Run at least two copy variations on each keyword and revise accordingly. On Google improved click thru rate (CTR) means lower cost per click (CPC).
