I have been using this tool and am really thankfull for it. I checked some of my words and I see that Keyword Tracker is not that accurate. For example, a keyword is on position 17 according to Keyword Tracker, but when I check manually it is on position 6. Anyone experiance with this?
its not 100% if that is what you mean. Its accurate for the most part, and I'd be willing to bet that the API matches within 1-2 positions on 90% of the terms, but some will be off.
Google has many different data centers which are never exactly the same. You can also get different search results based on your IP address. You can use the McDar tool to see what the various data centers are reporting.
The tool is 100% accurate. It's indeed the datacentres + user preferences that make it seem like it's off sometimes.
with Yahoo I find that the tracking URL's that Yahoo puts in makes it look in accurate, but it is not, the tool finds the position of your URL. Otherwise it is a datacenter issue, which I have been watching on one KWP for the last few days. I check manually and it is 17, yet the tracker shows 19, since it is pulling from a different datacenter.
I have to wonder how accurate the entire Keyword Tracker service is... I've not subscribed to it, but I did trial it a while back and the suggestions it gave me weren't very helpful. According to their site, they reference 300m queries over the trailing 110 days - about 2.7m queries per day. As of Feb 2003, Google was doing 250m queries per day, and this number is surely much higher today. So, one has to wonder if Keyword Tracker's "sample size", which is < 1% of what people are doing on Google, is really any indication of what general users are searching for... LC
Labcoat88 - what are you talking about? The KW tracker has nothing to do with what people are searching for?? *** nevermind - Shawn beat me to it............. ****
DOH! Yes, I'm talking about Wordtracker.com. Apologies for misreading the topic (I blame my optician.) I use the DP Keyword Tracker daily - it's fantastic. Saves me considerable time and aggravation. So, not to highjack this thread, but since I accidentily did already, what do folks think about the Wordtracker service? LC
