How accurate do you think the google keyword tool is?

The reason I am asking is I have an article not on EZA that has been sitting top spot for a search term that the google keyword tool said had over 12,000 average monthly searches for but over the last month I have only seen 200 hits to it. Do you think this tool is worthwhile and accurate to track monthly searches?

    Hi Pete,

Perhaps you've just answered your own question?

Think of it this way ...

    1) Are searches the same as click-thrus to SERPS?
    2) Does all the clicks go to the #1, #2, #3 ranked sites?

In other words, assuming the 12,000 monthly searches to be true, some of them are NOT going to visit any sites at all (some might click on Google Adwords?) and some will scan down the SERPs and click on the listing that's ranked #5 or #7 or whatever it is.

I thought that but I thought with that amount of searches there must be a higher CTR than what I am getting oh well. Will keep going with it Thanks trafficlicious.

Actually as far as I know top position gets around 50%, 2nd gets 25% etc...

It may also vary based on how attractive is the snippet.

If you are logged into gmail you may be getting personalized results so your website will rank differently for you than for other people
